Odds and Ends

Just a quick post to share some photos of interesting aspects of everyday life here:

Propane tanks inside the house
Wired shower heads to heat water with electricity
My shampoo advertising that it is 'without salt'

Milk that, if unopened, will last five months in the cupboard

  1. I find that my shampoo tastes better WITH salt. Do people ever get badly shocked? In a lot of Europe there are electric water heaters - but they are mounted on the wall and they heat a certain amount of water and you are supposed to turn them off as you shower. Mixing electricity and water seems so counter-intuitive to the N. American brain (at least mine!)

  2. There's more than one way to "wake" yourself up in the morning, I guess. If coffee no longer works, the jolt you get from the shower should do the trick!

I don't care if it can last 5 months without refrigeration, it just makes my stomach turn to think about getting milk from the regular shelf rather than the refrigerated section. But I've seen that type of milk here in the US too.

  3. Hi Lorin, I found your blog through ExpatsBlog, thought Id leave a comment, because I can relate so much. We too have to have those gas cannisters for cooking and for heating. I miss central heating so much! But I have to say UHT millk is great, I can get a ton and like you said they seem to never go off!

    1. Thank you for taking the time to check out my blog! We had to do some research on the UHT milk because our little guy will be starting cow's milk soon and we had no idea why or how it was different than "regular" milk :) It's nice to have a stockpile.
